Georgetown in STACKEDD Magazine

Georgetown is a vibrant and truly special neighborhood in Seattle.  Rich with a hard-working arts community, Georgetown is known for a festive vibe and  Georgetown Art Attack.  Every second Saturday of the month Georgetown galleries, studios, bars, and restaurants open their doors for a night of art, live music, food and spirits.  This past Holiday Art Attack was documented by photographer Niffer Calderwood, in a pictorial that beautifully captures the spirit of this eclectic neighborhood.  STACKEDD Magazine – Georgetown: A Pictorial is the first of a collection of articles designed to celebrate the diverse neighborhoods that make Seattle unique.  Being Seattle’s oldest neighborhood, Georgetown is the first!  If you are considering using The Stables for your special event don’t miss this opportunity to see what Georgetown is all about.

We made the cut!

The Stables is featured in a photo with our favorite neighbor, GoBee the cat…

Lawn Games

What’s a fun and different way to bring your guests together and create lasting memories?  Lawn games at your reception can make the party!  Keep quests engaged and having fun while meeting new family members and friends.  The Stables has plenty of outdoor space for all your game desires.

Bringing back the old tradition of lawn games at outdoor parties is becoming popular again at wedding receptions.  Set up the twister, bean bag toss, fuse ball, giant Jenga or any other lawn game and watch the fun begin!  It can also be a fun and unexpected way to personalize your reception with customized boards that incorporate your colors or theme!

Game On!

Cocktails by the Fireplace

The colder weather has finally rolled in to Seattle. The trees are begining to glow and rains have brought a chill to the air.  I have pulled out my favorite cozy sweaters and wool socks to keep me warm.  All of these fall signifiers have me day dreaming about warming up next to a fire with good friends and a warm Autumn inspired cocktail.

It seems that I am probably not alone in these ponderings, so here are a few favorite warm cocktail recipes to inspire you…

Apple Brandy Hot Toddies

1 1/2 cups water

3 tablesoons local honey

3/4 cup fresh lemon juice

2 cups apple brandy of your choice

Eight 3-inch cinnamon sticks

2 Fresh apples cut in thin slices

In small saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Remove from the heat and stir in the honey until dissolved. Stir in lemon juice and apple brandy. Set a cinnamon stick in each of 8 mugs or heatproof glasses, pour in the hot liquid.  Garnish with apple slices and serve.

Gaelic Punch

I recommend a young Irish whiskey for this recipe as it will stay smooth as it is heated

3/4 cup raw sugar

2 1/2 cup water

2 cups Irish Whiskey

Pinch of Nutmeg

Couple whole cloves and Star Anise for garnish

1-2 Lemons cut into wedges

Bring water to a low boil.  Remove from heat. Add raw sugar and stir till sugar has dissolved. Add half of the lemon wedges and muddle.  Add whiskey and nutmeg.  Stir and serve.  Garnish with lemon, cloves and float a star anise for added beauty.

I hope these recipes inspire you to cozy in with friends or with a good book and relax on these chilly fall evenings!

Got Love?

Thank you Macklemore and Ryan Lewis!  Thank you Grammys.  Thank you California voters.  And here in Seattle, thank you Washington voters.

The 2014 Grammy Awards got us thinking about a few things.  A lot about Pink and her exceptional ability to sing and fly and look amazing at the same time.

And that we want her at our next party.

But more than that, we were thinking about how happy we are to live in a place where marriage equality has arrived, and where people sing songs about it.  It’s exciting, it’s fresh, it’s fun, it’s festive, and it is going to bring so much celebration to the state of Washington!  Here at The Georgetown Stables, we have been feeling very lucky to have shared in some of these epic celebrations already.

There are a lot of resources out there for planning such festivities.  The OneLove Showcase is one of these resources.  With more than 100 vendors, they have all your wedding planning needs on one day in one location.  Click on the highlighted link above for more information.

We already brought the glitz

There’s a lot to think about when planning an event.  From navigating  invitations and seating, to choosing caterers and bands, and deciding what to wear, it might feel like a full time job.  The one thing you have in your pocket when you come to The Stables is decor.  You don’t need to bring all this:

Because we already have all this:

Although the following is really icing on the cake:

You don’t need to call in the cavalry to make the event pop.  Some colorful balloons, a welcome tree, flowers, pinatas, or metallic fringe curtains as an altar backdrop…it’s easy as cake.  We have the personality you are looking for, but we still have room for your personal touch.

Procrastinate much?  Four days after the ball dropped in Times Square, The Georgetown Stables is full of New Year’s revelers and tireless dancers because it’s never too late to celebrate, and there’s always time to think outside the box.  If your holiday letters normally go out around the Fourth of July, check out these ideas for belated holiday gifts  that you won’t even need to wrap or mail:

1. Did you see the episode of Modern Family where Claire surprised Phil with a Chinese acrobat performance for their anniversary?  Well, regardless, it was definitely outside the box, and here in Seattle, you can do something similar for your Claire or Phil, or mom, or Cousin Vinny.

At Emerald City Trapeze,  instructors teach students how to fly in style.  For performances, some of the  instructors have been known to perform their midair sparkle magic at The Pink Door on Sunday and Monday nights!

2. A trip to the Georgetown Trailer park Mall.

Like a traveling circus, there is something for everyone:  vintage pieces, cowboy hats, jewelry, off-beat finds, glassware, knick-knacks, art, and more.  Throw in dinner at Fonda la Catrina and drinks at Jules Maes Saloon for a complete outing.

3. The gift of va-va-voom at Seattle’s Academy of Burlesque.  Whether you want to surprise your honey with some swanky moves, or treat your favorite girlfriends to a private tease workshop, it’s win win win win win on all sides.  If you want to go the extra mile, boudoir photography is popping up all over the city.

4.  Dance party!  Treat your lady, your fellow, or your ladies and fellows to private dance lessons.  We know you still need to cross ‘learning All the Single Ladies dance’ off your list  of resolutions…

5.  And where are you going to throw that private tease workshop, boudoir photography session, and private dance party?  Right here at the Georgetown Stables.  We have everything you need for a party, day or night, Sunday through Monday.  With custom lighting, vintage props (including a vintage airstream trailer, a jukebox, a funhouse mirror, a Model-T mini, and a coin-operated  kiddie rides) plenty of dance space, a large stage, and a fabulous soundsystem, and loads of personality, we have all your bases covered.  It’s all in the memories.  It’s outside of the box (but within city limits despite the frontier feel of Georgetown).  Get to it.  And Happy New Year!
