Last Saturday dozens of people turned out to see the show “Squat”. Squat was curated by Tracy Cilona and Crystal Fosnaugh of DameBuilder and hosted by Twilight Artist Collective. This is one of the first in a series that these two powerhouse women will be curating throughout the city. Squat was inspired by Anya Janssen’s painting, The Fickless of Mother Nature and Edith, Danville, Virginia, 1971, by Emmet Gowen.
“The human figure at once fierce and towering, then primal in her natural and private spaces. Whether it is squatting to pee, squatting to work, give birth, have sex, or squatting to pounce and attack. It’s instinct. It‘s thighs. It’s animal.
Squatting is a position that can represent a fear, lower class, position of power, strength, connection to the earth, sexuality, dirtiness, birth, hiding and meditation.”
The night was a huge success with lots of great work, featuring photography from Miss Oblivious, Julia Landon, Crystal Fosnaugh and Tracy Cilona; Paintings by AKAK and An-Magrith Erandsen; And an interactive sculpture by Alex Miller. Live music provided by Kelli’s Starlight Wishes!
Thanks for all that attended!
